Electricity generation at coal-fired power stations produces flue gas. One of the methods used to clean this flue gas in an environmentally compatible way is the flue gas desulfurization plant (FGDP). After initial removal of the fly ash, the flue gas is desulfurized in large scrubbers through chemical reaction with a lime sorbent. This binds the sculpture in a watery gypsum slurry, which is then treated and dewatered on a vacuum filter belt in a vacuum belt filter plant. The process puts extremely high demands on the functionality, material properties and stability of the vacuum filter belt.
